Halo 4’s Promethean Crawler detailed

Back in May, 343 Industries detailed changes to past enemies that players will encounter in Halo 4. Last time they detailed the Unnggoy, or Grunts as they were called in past Halo titles. This week, the studio continued to share some details regarding enemies in Halo 4, this time focusing on an entirely new creature. In part two of "Meet Your Halo 4 Enemies", 343 Industries' Jessica Shea has detailed the Promethean Crawlers.

"The Prometheans," Shea writes, "are a powerful and mysterious element of the ancient Forerunner Warrior-Servants whose forebears fell from power following the Human-Forerunner War. Some of the remaining Prometheans appear to be tasked with defending the mysterious alien world we’ve recently shown you, along with its payload of terrifying secrets and emerging threats."

"Much like the Covenant, the Prometheans feature a variety of different unit types, each one utilizing unique tactics, technology, and abilities to create dynamic combat scenarios unlike anything you have ever encountered in Halo before," she added.

The Crawler is an "impressively armed Forerunner machines, capable of both close-quarters and long-range combat." They travel in large packs and are engineered to hunt down and eliminate threats. They will act like a skirmishing unit, constantly harassing Master Chief.

Individual Crawler types include the basic unit, a more heavily armed unit, and a deadly, long-range unit. The heavily armed Crawler is described as "tougher" and more likely to charge in and melee attack. The long-range Crawler, as you can guess, prefers to snipe you from a distance. Crawlers are fast, deadly, and not to be taken lightly.

"As Frankie so eloquently said at E3," Shea noted, "killing them is like popping bubble wrap… until there’s a thousand of them. Then it’s deadly bubble wrap."

I don't know about you, but Halo 4 stunned me during Microsoft's E3 press conference. From the brief gameplay demo showed, it looks like 343 has made tremendous strides with the Halo series, both graphically and with gameplay. With a new Spartan Ops game mode and a new name for "teabagging", 343 Industries is aiming big with Halo 4.

Gamers will have their first chance to go hands-on with Halo 4 at RTX in Austin, Texas which will take place July 7-9.
