Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor composed Black Ops 2 theme song

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, who previously wrote the soundtrack to The Girl with teh Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network, is has composed the soundtrack for Activision's upcoming first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. So if you hate it, you know who to blame.

Reznor, who won an Academy Award for The Social Network soundtrack, described the theme song for Black Ops 2 as an "aggressively sounding" piece of guitar, bass and drums-based rock.

This is not Reznor's first time in the video game industry. He has previously worked with id Software on Quake and Doom 3.

"I have always looked to that franchise as the cutting edge of what seemingly unlimited budgets and full-on not cutting any corners can do in the current day and age," he told USA Today of the Call of Duty franchise, to which he has always been a fan of.

Reznor has already recorded the theme for Black Ops 2 which takes place in the near future, propelling players in a Cold War-like global conflict inspired by today's headlines.

"There is a lot of reservation and angst and sense of loss and regret and anger bubbling under the surface," Reznor said of the dark undertones found in the soundtrack. "So it didn't make sense to have a gung ho patriotic feeling kind of theme song. It has to feel weighty."

You can actually hear the theme song in the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer above which reveals more information about the game's story and gives players a glimpse of the new villain, Raul Menendez.
