War Front: Turning Point – PC – Preview 2

E3 2006 First Look Preview

CDV showcased a couple of
good titles at the show, one in particular centering around the concept that
Hitler was assassinated prior to World War II, but Russia decided to go ahead
and continue the invasion anyway. The game is called War Front: Turning Point,
and is based on not only World War II, but also a lot of secret technologies and
weapons that they happened to be working on at the time like jetpacks or even a
German stealth bomber.

War Front is going to be
an RTS title, and one of the unique things that CDV added in on this title is
the different weapons that each country … Britain, Germany, and Russia will be
allowed to use. For example, Germany may run around in flame throwing tanks, but
what if they also researched and developed such things as shield generators,
earthquake bombs, or even giant walking mechs? What if Russia, being a much
colder country, decided to make liquid nitrogen bombs to freeze enemies or ice
thrower tanks to freeze rather than burn the opposition? Anyways, these are the
kinds of things you will get to do in War Front.

The game actually feels
very similar to Warhammer Dawn of War in some instances, like building and
upgrading certain buildings to launch bombers, create more and better troops, or
put out artillery and tanks. In addition, there also won’t be a lot of resource
management to worry about, outside of trucks to run materials from resources to
processing. There will also be heroes for each side, like the US general and his
Jesse Ventura auto cannon who can be called in to help level the area, and you
will be able to take all of this environmental destruction and fighting online
in up to 24 multiplayer skirmish maps. Another unique feature here will be able
to go into third person viewpoint during the battle to really get into the
middle of things, and you can also go into FPS style modes to man turrets and
ground guns.

CDV did a great job on a
lot of their previous RTS titles, and this one shows some good ideas and unique
creating on their part. Be looking for War Front in September of 2006.
