Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm – NG – Preview

E3 2004 Previews
The
Ghost Recon series has been a multiplayer smash on pretty much every available
console. Now, the series is coming to the N-Gage, in the form of a tactical FPS
with Bluetooth support for up to eight players.  I recently got a chance to sit
down and play it, and the gameplay was shaping up pretty nicely.

For
those who are unfamiliar with the series, Ghost Recon is a tactical shooter
where you must lead a team of operatives through missions in which you must
rescue hostages and eliminate the terrorist threat.  You can issue commands to
your team and exercise a fair amount of strategy in order to complete the game’s
all-new missions.

The
N-Gage version does a fine job of mirroring the console incarnations, albeit in
First Person Shooter form.  Controlling your soldier was actually quite easy on
the N-Gage, using the D-Pad for looking and the number buttons more movement and
strafing.  Issuing orders to the team was also pretty easy, and they react
quickly and intelligently.

The
coolest feature in the N-Gage Ghost Recon was the Bluetooth wireless support.
Up to eight players can play a variety of different gameplay modes, like
Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Survival, Domination and a co-op team play against
the game’s AI.

The
graphics were quite good.  The weapon models have a good amount of detail and
looked nice, and the environments (set in Colombia) looked pretty good.  The
game had an overall look similar to Red Faction on the N-Gage.

Ghost
Recon lands this August.
