E3 2006 First Look Preview
Whenever we think of demons, we usually think of bad things that want to hurt
us. Well, Atlus has instead decided to take a different approach by having
helpful demons. While this was the first time I had heard of the game, the
series is apparently very big in Japan. Basically, you play as an investigator
in Japan during the 1930’s.
investigator, you will no doubt have to get information to help you solve cases
and such, and NPC’s that you encounter may or may not give you info. For
example, one may simply talk about her science test and how poorly she did … but
then summoning up a demon that can read minds may allow you to probe further
into her mind and find out that she saw the teacher do something weird the day
before which made her nervous which is why she did poorly on the test. In
addition, the dialogue may be different depending on whether you use a demon to
read her mind or maybe one that causes her mental pain.
combat ensues, it is in real time against foes and other demons. You and your
summoned demon friend will fight off enemies with a variety of combo attacks,
swords, guns, magic, etc. There is also an elemental system in place, so by
using a particular elemental attack against a demon that is weak to it may stun
it and allow you to capture it, which then adds to your demon arsenal in order
to progress or get more clues about what you need to do next.
game will be open ended and while it will follow one storyline, it will allow
you to roam around freely and get into some side quests and such to break up the
monotony. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner is scheduled for a fall 2006
