Guilty Gear Isuka – PS2 – Preview

By
now most everyone knows the name Guilty Gear. If not, it is Sammy’s 2D fighting
game that offers many unique fighters and moves that rival fighter kings Capcom
and SNK. Known for its fast gameplay and crisp graphics, Guilty Gear has become
a favorite of many.

Guilty
Gear Isuka introduces many new elements to the Guilty Gear experience. Now up to
four players can fight in the same battle, so now players have a lot more to
keep their eye on. The four fighters can either split into two teams or go all
out in a free for all. The battlefield is also now comprised of two planes
instead of one; a foreground and a background. Switching between them is simple
and quick, so it ends up becoming an instinct. The two planes even bring upon
some new abilities, such as knocking other players into another plane or turning
your character around to attack an enemy coming from behind.

Along
with this addition, all new levels and a completely new soundtrack are planned
for Isuka. It was hard to hear the music on the show floor at E3, but you can be
sure that it’ll be just as rockin’ as the last games in the series. Each level
is brand new as well, sporting beautiful scenery and artwork.

Not
only are there new levels and music, but three new characters will be joining
the roster. Along with the three characters is an all new Boost mode, mimicking
an arcade side scroller. This mode is much like the old beat ‘em up side
scrollers and actually allows your characters to gain experience points. These
experience points can be used to buy special moves for the new characters,
allowing the player to build their perfect fighter.

Some
other small but important changes include the new color edit mode. Players can
color their fighter much like in Capcom Vs SNK, so now you can fight with style.
Other tweaks were made based on player feedback to the timing of combos and
super moves, as well as the amount of damage certain moves do. These tweaks are
minimal, but hardcore Guilty Gear fans may notice them.

Guilty
Gear Isuka is just oozing with improvements, and fans of the series will
definitely appreciate them. If the 4-player mode ends up not floating your boat,
the original arcade mode and one-on-one battles are still intact. Expect GG
Isuka during this holiday season.
