Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires – PS2 – Preview

There’s
a new Dynasty Warriors 4 around the corner, and while it’s not a sequel, it’s
not an expansion either. Dynast Warriors 4: Empires follows the generals from
Dynasty Warriors 4, but there’s even more depth to the gameplay.

Dynasty
Warriors 4: Empires is a lot like a blend of Dynasty Warriors and Kessen. You
move your different troops into battle, and then once in the battle you play it
just like you would play Dynasty Warriors. As you unlock generals you can assign
them to various armies and set their order of attack. The map is divided into 24
regions, and your goal is to overtake them all. The game is very strategic in
terms of where you will attack and who you have to attack. This also lets you
forge your own path, making the game very non-linear.

Other
features have improved as well, such as the new Character Edit mode. The number
of models and voices you can choose from has tripled since DW4, and now player
created characters can use any type of weapon. The multiplayer modes have
expanded some as well; the VS mode will now let you send troops into enemy
territory as you defeat enemy units with your Musou attack.

Dynasty
Warriors 4: Empires is a really fun game that will be worth adding to your
Dynasty Warriors collection. Even if you’ve never played a Dynasty Warriors game
now is a good time because this is the deepest and most strategic in the series,
and at $29.99 it is well worth it. Look for Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires in
September this year.
