Valve has acquired the developer Turtle Rock Studios who are currently working on Left 4 Dead, a first-person shooter that runs on the Source engine.
“Left 4 Dead fills a long-standing demand gamers have had for a co-op first-person action experience, and it will also help Valve’s expansion into the console market,” added Doug Lombardi, Valve’s VP of marketing.
The game pits eight players against each other in various stages of Survivors versus the Infected. There will be multiple characters on each side and each will have their own unique abilities.
By progressing through each level, survivors must defeat the Infected who can re-spawn and reach the boss of the stage in order to win. If a character is not supplied with a player then it will be replaced with an AI which will have the ability to do “Whatever an enraged person might do in a similar situation to get to the target of their rage.”
