The Live Ammo and Enemies of Oddworld

We here at Xbox Advanced personally can’t wait for the release of Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath, so what better way to treat the game’s release with a weeklong special? We’ve already given you the history on Oddworld Inhabitants, and much more will be brought to the table throughout the week. We here at XA have already given you a peak in our full preview-which can be seen here-on what Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath will deliver.

One of the major and most ingenious aspects about Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath is the Live Ammo. We are digging deep and listing all of the details on the Live Ammo and some of the fierce enemies that one will encounter in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath. Here is our detailed feature on the Live Ammo and enemies that roam the world of Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath. So please, sit back and enjoy this huge feature that includes information straight from Oddworld.

Wielder of the Live Ammo

Steef’s Crossbow
Features: Fires two of any type of Live Ammo at a time. Double barreled and is also retractable. Sits atop Steef’s arm and is retractable for convenience to the bounty hunter.

Ammo Used: Live ammo
Yes, we may have already detailed Steef’s Crossbow in our preview of Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath, but the crossbow plays a vital role for the Live Ammo, and is the main weapon in the game. More details have emerged, such as the crossbow’s dual barreled system. The crossbow that Steef wields is also retractable, meaning that when not used the crossbow retracts to provide more mobility and convenience to the bounty hunter. The crossbow also features an ammo counter for each Live Ammo that is loaded into the crossbow. In addition to these details, we also know that Steef’s crossbow is the only weapon used by the bounty hunter in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath. It may sound wrong, and you may be saying to yourself “one weapon in the game? That blows!”, but in actuality Steef’s crossbow can be used as multiple weapons. No, it cannot transform-this isn’t Transformers after all-but by using the ingenious Live Ammo in the crossbow, one can potentially turn the crossbow into a rifle or a machine gun. All Live Ammo is used in this fashion, and the way that the crossbow is used in conjunction with the Live Ammo presents an originality that feels very fresh and unique.

The Live Ammo of Oddworld

Chippunks
Closest Relative: The Chipmunk

Features: Smart mouth; used to lure enemies to the area where it lands after fired. The Chippunk can be used as bait to lure enemies into a trap.

The Chipmunk has always been denoted for its cuteness and innocence, but underneath it is a smart alack little critter. This little ‘critter’ takes the form of a Chippunk, a cute little Live Ammo that throws humorous remarks left and right. Often offensive, the remarks made by the Chippunk are hilarious and should provide a great laugh to the player. When one needs to lure an enemy to an area, the Chippunk is the main Live Ammo to use. When fired, the Chippunk will land and throw snotty comments left and right, leading the enemy to the foul-mouthed little bugger. The enemy will often times try to stomp the Chippunk because of its irritating sound. Here is where the player can take advantage of the distracted enemy and trap the unknowing bounty and capture him for money. The Chippunk is invaluable live ammo when used in combination with another Live Ammo, and is mostly used in cases of capturing an enemy alive.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: To reap the rewards of a live bounty, the Chippunk is best used in conjunction with the Bolamite. First, make sure that you have the chippunk in your first barrel and a Bolamite in your second barrel. Fire the chippunk to distract the enemy, and then blast the goon with a Bolamite. Then you can arrest him for some quick cash.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, the Chippunk can be used with the Thudslug to cause a great amount of damage, and can even kill an enemy. To successfully do this, one can fire the bait (the Chippunk), then destroy the enemy by firing the Thudslug at the distracted bounty. Then you can take your roasted pork chop and cash him in.

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Chippunk is the Howler Punk. They verbally abuse louder and longer than usual. This lets enemies from a longer distance away hear the little bugger and come a-stomping.

Stingbees
Closest Relative: The Bee/Wasp
Features: Stingbees can be used in scope mode to pick off enemies, and can prove fatal to an enemy.

The Bee is known for its hard hurting stings, and in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath the Stingbees prove no different. More of a ‘killer bee’ than anything else, the Stingbee often proves fatal to any adversary that one may come upon. Used with a scope and a Stingbee, the crossbow can be used as a sniper rifle, leaving the player to pick of random enemies at will. Up close, the Stingbee can also kill a variety of enemies with its powerful accuracy and speed. Also, the Stingbee is silent. If one is looking for a stealth approach, the Stingbee may be the best choice of weaponry, as it is not a loud Live Ammo that will cause notice to enemies. Throughout one’s journey of the game, the Stingbee can be found in many places. One of more essential Live Ammos, the Stingbee packs a powerful punch, and may prove vital to many strategies that one can use to their advantage.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: Truthfully, there is no combination that can be used by the Stingbee to warrant a live bounty. As stated before, the Stingbee is a fatal Live Ammo. Therefore, no combination can be used with the Stingbee to ensure a live bounty.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, one doesn’t even need the help of another Live Ammo since the Stingbee itself is fatal to an enemy. Though, if you want to take a stealthy approach, you can use the Stingbee in conjunction with the Chippunk to ensure death at your doorstep.

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Stingbee is the Stingbee Blast. The Stingbees will now have sharp spikes on them, making even more of a world of hurt for your enemies to experience.

Stunks
Closest Relative: The Skunk
Features: Stunks are yet another cute, good-natured Live Ammo that can immobilize enemies with its odor.

The Stunk is a cute little critter that can be used to immobilize nearby enemies. If you were an avid watcher of the MTV series Jackass, you’ll know how harmful a Skunk’s odor can be to one’s digestive system. Like the Skunk, Stunks use their foul odor to make enemies vomit after they come in contact with the smell. Rendering the enemy distracted and vomiting, Steef can potentially either pass the enemy or attack the enemy while it becomes sick of the smell. Not only can it be used on a single foe, but the Stunk is relatively powerful even when used in a group of enemies. Just fire a single Stunk, and soon you will have a pile of vomit to sift through! Truthfully though, the Stunk is a powerful Live Ammo that can be used in many situations to immobilize the enemy. If you are looking for a quick kill, there is no better distraction then the Stunk. Then you can take your vomiting mess and turn it in for cash.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: Proving to be a more powerful distraction than the Chippunk Live Ammo, the Stunk can be used in combination with an Uncharged Zappfly. To do this, simply launch the skunk at an enemy and wait for the odor to take affect. Once the vomiting has started, load some uncharged Zappflies on the unsuspecting foe to render him unconscious. Then tag him and receive your cash.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, one can shoot the enemy with a skunk to render them helpless, and then load the soon-to-be carcass full of Stingbees. And voila! You have a dead foe to cash in and a pile of vomit.

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Stunk is the Implosion Stunkz. The Stunks now have a very, very powerful odor that will suck in enemies while they yell and move about frantically after taking in the horrifying stench.

Zappflies
Closest Relative: None
Features: Zappflies come in all differentiations; they can be used when charged or uncharged, and both serve a different purpose. The charged Zappflies emit electrical energy, and the uncharged emit a world of hurt on a foe.

The Zappfly in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath is a very unique creature indeed. More of an insect than anything, the Zappfly can be either charged or uncharged, meaning that the Zappfly has many purposes that will be vital to Steef’s quest across Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath. Below are the charged Zappfly and uncharged Zappfly details.

Charged Zappfly:So far we know that a charged Zappfly only serves one purpose to the bounty hunter; charged Zappflies are used as electrical surges that will activate machines or shut them down. Though, these creatures are very helpful. If launched at an activator on the machine, the machine will either shut down or turn on. Throughout your adventure, these machines will help you solve puzzles or beat down your opponents. As you see, the charged Zappfly is a creature that one will need on their quest throughout Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath. If there is any use for the charged Zappfly on enemies, it is at this time unknown. But, just imagine filling your foe with 1,000 volts of electrical shock!

Uncharged ZappflyThe uncharged Zappfly is primarily yet another Live Ammo that will give your opponent a run for their money. The uncharged Zappfly can quickly render an enemy unconscious, and with enough uncharged Zappflies loaded into the enemy, the foe will become obsolete. It doesn’t take much for the uncharged Zappfly to do so, and they are a powerful Live Ammo that many will want to carry throughout their adventure.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: One could effectively shoot a Bolamite at an enemy, and then load him full of uncharged Zappflies until he is rendered unconscious. The charged Zappfly could be great for electrical shock to an enemy. Though, we do not know yet if the charged Zappfly can be used on enemies. But imagine the combo one could use on a foe for a live bounty. Zap!

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, one can shoot the enemy with three rounds of uncharged Zappflies until the foe is as dead as a doornail. The charged Zappfly could add to a charred carcass with a good combination of a Chippunk at hand. If the charged Zappfly can be used on enemies, one could shoot the chipmunk leaving the foe distracted. Then the player can fill him with numerous volts of electrical action!

Live Ammo Upgrade: None or unknown at this time.

Bolamites
Closest Relative: The general Spider
Features: Bolamites act as an immobilization to foes. Webbing them tightly, the Bolamite is a very successful capturing creature.

Spiders spin webs. So do Bolamites. Bolamites will web your foes up and render them helpless. Once they are on the ground squirming for freedom, you can both leave them and be on your way or you can arrest them and take them into prison. Once the web is secured around the foe, the enemy cannot yell or scream for help. This can come in handy when using a stealthy approach. If a player waits too long, the foe has a chance to escape the web. So, make sure to pass the tied-up enemy quickly, or cash him in. Great combinations can be used with the Bolamite. If one wants to use stealth, this is the one Live Ammo to make sure you have in stock.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: As with the Chippunk, the best combination here would be to use the Chippunk to make a distraction, and then shoot the Bolamite at the unsuspecting target. Next, you can either pass them or arrest them for prison. The Bolamite also leads to a stealthy approach. In this case the best thing to do is to hit the enemy head on with the Bolamite, then pass him or tag him.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, one can shoot the enemy with a Bolamite to render them helpless, and then use the uncharged Zappflies to finish off the ‘dirty work’.

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Bolamite is the Bolamite Blast. The Bolamites can now make there web stronger, introducing pain to the webbed foe and lowering the enemy’s life.

Thudslugs
Closest Relative: None
Features: The Thudslug is one of the most powerful Live Ammo in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath. The Thudslug hits with a tremendous force and can knock enemies out quickly.

The Thudslug sure is a unique creature in itself. It does not resemble any real world creature, which isn’t a surprise since strange critters always pop up in Oddworld adventures. The Thudslug is a very useful Live Ammo that can knock foes unconscious and potentially kill them. If one uses a Thudslug on a destructible object, the destructible will explode from the force of the Thudslug. The Thudslug has such a powerful force due to its speed. Thudslugs can literally hit enemies with such a force that it will knock a foe back a few paces. Not many enemies can withstand a Thudslug, leaving Steef the advantage when he has the Thudslug Live Ammo in his possession.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: For a live bounty, one may want to use a Thudslug in conjunction with a Chippunk. Shoot the Chippunk, letting it verbally distract the enemy, and then launch a Thudslug at the foe, rendering him unconscious. Then tag him for prison.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: For a dead bounty, the player can effectively use the same combination as the live bounty combination, but add more power to the package. Again, Shoot the Chippunk, letting it verbally distract the enemy, and then launch numerous Thudslugs at the foe, rendering him dead. This might be your best option for a good combination with the Thudslug to kill a foe.

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Thudslug is the Riot Slug. The Thudslugs hit harder and faster, with more force than any other Live Ammo.

Fuzzles
Closest Relative: None
Features: The Fuzzle acts as a stationary land mine that will knock oncoming enemies off their feet.

The Fuzzle bears no resemblance to any creature we’ve ever seen. Maybe if you took a rabid dog and squeezed it into a ball, at least you would have the subtle look of a Fuzzle. The Fuzzle acts as a stationary land mine when fired, meaning that wherever Steef shoots the Fuzzle, it will wait in that place until an enemy approaches. Once the enemy is in the area of the Fuzzle, the Fuzzle will pounce at the enemy and inflict large amounts of damage. These little critters can either be laid as traps or can be launched at enemies for the Fuzzle to deal with. Biting and ripping are the name of the game with the Fuzzle, and are a very important Live Ammo to have in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: The best combination to use with a Fuzzle might be a Chippunk. Use the Chippunk to distract the enemy, and then unleash the Fuzzle on the foe. Shreds will be scattered as the Fuzzle chews at the unlucky enemy. Once unconscious, take your foe in for cash.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, one can shoot the enemy with a Bolamite to render them helpless, and then load the enemy with many rabid Fuzzles. Death will be the toll for the passerby.

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Fuzzle is the Rabid Fuzzle. The Fuzzles can now be launched farther then before, and also inflict more damage on the enemy by attacking with more force.

Boombats
Closest Relative: The Bat
Features: Boombats act as a time bomb, and will damage enemies within the immediate area of where the Boombat was launched.

The Boombat is mainly a time bomb waiting to burst. After launched, the Boombat will start a countdown until its explosion. Make sure you aren’t in the area of the explosion!
Boombats can cause a great deal of damage not only to the enemies of Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath, but also to Steef. If Steef launches a Boombat and is to close to where it lands, you can say “bye” to the bounty hunter. Also, if a Boombat comes within direct contact of an enemy, the enemy will flail around widely trying to shake the Boombat off. While the commotion has been started, the other foes around the unlucky flailing enemy will run for cover. The explosion will render a lucky enemy unconscious and an unlucky foe dead. Also, try launching a few Boombats into a group of enemies. July 4th has never felt so close!

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Live Bounty: The best combination to use with a Boombat might be a Chippunk. Use the Chippunk to distract the enemy, and then unleash the Boombat on the foe. Watch as the enemy runs around pleading for help until the countdown finally hits 1. Kaboom! Now that he is unconscious, tag him for prison.

Best Live Ammo Combination for a Dead Bounty: To reap the rewards of a dead bounty, one can shoot the enemy with a Bolamite to render them helpless, and then load the enemy with many Boombats. Death at destruction at the same time!

Live Ammo Upgrade: The Live Ammo upgrade for the Boombat is the Bada Boom. The Boombats will now have a shorter countdown (fuse) and also produce five drones that will attack any enemy within the area.

The Bad

Mr. Sekto
Job Description: Owner of the Sekto Springs Water Company. Mr. Sekto was responsible for the exploitation of Mongo River.
Can be Found at: Executive Office and Heliport on top of the Sekto Springs Dam.

Mr. Sekto overcame the peaceful land that is Oddworld when he cultivated the Sekto Springs Water Company. With catch phrases such as “I like animals! Just look at all of them on my wall!”, and “Find me a good Steef head!” you just know that Mr. Sekto is a greedy and evil person to the inhabitants of Oddworld. Hopefully we will find that Steef rids the world of him and his goons to regain peace once again to Oddworld.

The Bosses in Oddworld
Job Description: To think of money, their jobs, and themselves.
Can be Found at: All over Oddworld.

These evil vermin are the outcasts of Oddworld. They are all outlaws, and are running from the good. But never fear; Steef will hunt them down and collect his cash. Often times Bosses will have minions around to help protect them from good-doers like Steef. Little do they know about the power of Steef and his crossbow though.

Minions
Job Description: To protect their bosses and kill anything that moves.
Can be Found at: All over Oddworld and also around their bosses; the Outlaws.

The minions of Oddworld are stupid and arrogant creatures. They kill anything that moves in their wake. Their mentality is ‘shoot first, ask question later’. Minions can be found all over Oddworld, whether along a dusty road or protecting their bosses. Many times they get in Steef’s way, and the only way to get rid of something irritating is to make it obsolete.

Wolvarks
Job Description: Industrial Security grunts.
Can be Found at: At Industrial Facilities around Oddworld.

Wolvarks are a redneck race that is lazy and corrupt. These creatures share the same ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ mentality with the Minions. Sometimes you may catch them taking a quick snooze, or even watching their kin on the Larry Flinger Show. Whatever you catch them doing, just make sure that they don’t catch you!

Slegs
Job Description: To attack anything in sight and bite it to death.
Can be Found at: In certain areas around Oddworld.

Slegs have been intentionally starved and beaten by their poachers, and because of this they are a rabid and dangerous creature. Slegs can be found in the wild and all over Oddworld. Looking more like a mix between a Metroid Prime-looking creature and a rottweilor, these beasts are ferocious and will attack anything in site. Just make sure that that thing isn’t you.

____________________

The Good

Stranger
Name: Steef. Around Oddworld he is just known as ‘Stranger’.
Race: Unknown. Some say he’s from the river. Others say he’s from the mountains.
Job Description: Tough bounty hunter that finds outlaws and throws them back into the prison where they belong.

Stranger is a unique creature. No one knows his origin. No one knows his name. No one knows what his personality is like. No one knows anything about him. One thing that can be said about the bounty hunter is this; he is as hard as a rock. You can’t crack him. The townsfolk think he’s hiding something behind his clothes. Stranger is destined for great things in Oddworld. He may just be what Oddworld needs; a hero.

The Grubbs

Race: Grubbs (Native, Indigenous)
Job Description: Gathering relics for whoever is kind enough to enslave them.

The Grubbs once lived in peace with harmony and nature. They lived on the land off the river, but the peace was thrown out the window by settlers coming in and taking their land. They were then located to a new territory under the “Official Grubb Removal and Snatch the Aqua Act”. This laid the groundwork for more races to come in and cultivate around Oddworld.
