If there’s one thing the Wii hasn’t provided a whole lot of (and I’m going to regret that choice of words, I just know it), it’s fighting games.
Beyond Super Smash Bros. Brawl, there’s some anime-based fare, a last-generation Mortal Kombat, the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which is kind of up in the air at this point.
But what would Wii owners say if they knew that Tekken could potentially be on the table?
During an interview with GamePro, the very question of a Wii version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection or Tekken 6 was brought up to Director Katsuhiro Harada.
Asked whether he had any desire to bring either game to the Wii (and why or why not), Harada replied in turn: “That would be very interesting. Like the Xbox 360 owners, if Wii owners are passionate and make it known they really want the series on their system, we would love to be able to answer that request.”
He notes that “Hearing about the huge number of Xbox 360 owners who are Tekken fans, especially in North America, definitely played a huge part in influencing us to bring the game to that system.”
“As for the Wii,” he adds, “the standard controller lacks the right number of buttons and the placement is awkward, so… I suppose the classic controller could handle it!”
So there we have it. If Wii owners are loud and proud enough, there’s a chance they could have a chance to be Tekken to the limit.
