Approximately 2 weeks ago, Blizzrd announced that Nihilistic, would not be finishing their work on Starcraft: Ghost. The reasons for the depatrure were never clearly expressed, but Blizzard assured the gaming public that a replacement would be found once they evaluated the pool of 3rd party developers that were available.
It seems that boys at Blizzard as intelligent as they are talented, having chosen Swinging Ape studios to not only take up the reigns from Nihilistic, but collaborate with Blizzard on future products as per a clause in the agreement between the two companies. Mike Morhaime, Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder regarding the agreement:
“The team at Swingin’ Ape Studios is a very talented group of developers with a proven ability to deliver extraordinary games. We’re confident that this partnership will result in titles that achieve the level of quality that players have come to expect from Blizzard products.”
For those who are unfamiliar for Swinging Ape studios, look no further than the critically acclaimed Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. Arguably the best pure shooter/action game on XBOX aside from Halo, the game was so poorly recieved at retail that original plans for a sequel were scrapped. Hopefully the fame and fortune that Swinging Ape will inevitably gain from their deal with Blizzard will lead to the return of Glitch.
