“Worst Street Fighter Match” ever is the label put on this video by Official Xbox Magazine, and it’s easy enough to see why. Some complain that Street Fighter IV is “overly defensive” when compared to other fighters, and the first round of two in the quarter finals of a recent Japanese Street Fighter IV tournament.
It reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where they go to see the soccer game, actually. From The Simpsons Archive:
Brockman: [calling plays from booth listlessly] “Halfback passes to the center. Back to the wing. Back to the center. Center holds it. Holds it. [rolls eyes] Holds it…”
Then meanwhile, there are what the Japanese announcers in the video sound like: [excitedly] “Halfback passes to center, back to wing, back to center, center holds it! Holds it! Holds it!”
The match does pick up into a rather interesting one for round 2, however, at 2:07. It leads me to wonder if they weren’t just waiting out the clock for some sort of “winner takes all” match.
