Koei today announced that Opoona, an exclusive RPG for Wii, will be hitting North America on March 25, 2008. Opoona was developed by ArtePiazza, famed Japanese development studio that has previously worked with the Dragon Quest franchise, and the game’s score was composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, known and renowned for his work with Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII.
Opoona is billed as “lifestyle RPG,” where players will learn to cope with unknown environments, converse with various people, and actually play a role in the game world’s society. Sounds odd, right? Surprisingly, the game can be played entirely with just the Wii Nunchuk. Combat is more action-oriented than other RPGs on the market, as the main means to attack are “Energy Bonbons” (the little ball on top of some of the characters heads’), which, when used, are controlled via the Nunchuk.
“Opoona will give video gamers a refreshing and new perspective on the Role-Playing genre. The ‘single-hand control’ combined with the modern fantasy world of Opoona is sure to captivate both veteran gamers and newcomers alike,” said Amos Ip, Senior Vice President at KOEI Corporation.
Opoona is rated “E10+” (Everyone 10+) by the ESRB. Be sure to check out the bundle of new screens we just added to Opoona’s gallery, and stay tuned to hear more about Opoona in the upcoming weeks.
