With Wii launching in European territories on December 8, Nintendo has confirmed that it plans to spend heavily on advertising for Wii between now and next March.
The company is set to spend £9.7 million for promotion purposes from now until the close of the holiday season, and a further £6.7 million between January and March. Nintendo plans to advertise through television and cinema spots, as well as a major press campaign and demo units.
While the Wii will be getting a huge budget in the advertising department during the next few months, Nintendo isn’t about to let the DS get the shaft. A holiday marketing budget totaling up to just under £9 million is planned for the handheld, which is expected to ship another 1 million units by the year’s end.
