When Capcom revealed the PlayStation 3 version of Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition, one thing that did not seem to sit very well with people was the way the DualShock 3 controller was being used in a fashion comparable to the Wii Remote’s Nunchuk attachment. Fortunately, there is a possibility that Sony is working on that as we speak.
Siliconera has dug up a new patent from Sony for an unknown controller being developed in Southern California, with one person working at Sony’s Electronics Design center in Los Angeles. Specifics regarding what the controller would be used for are unavailable, and Siliconera puts forth that maybe it’s for a new quiz style game like Buzz, but with the image depicting the device held in the left hand, that leads one to wonder about the aforementioned Nunchuck idea, though this seems to rely more on buttons laid out similarly to a D-pad than an analog stick.
You can find more patent images of the controller at Siliconera, and form an opinion of your own.
