New Drives In Xbox 360

Everybody on the block knows the Xbox 360 is one of the nosiest consoles out there with an internal DVD drive reminiscent of the take-off of a Boeing 747. There’s good news on the horizon for those who haven’t invested in the Xbox 360: Microsoft has started building the newer consoles with a different internal DVD drive.

The internal DVD drive is manufactured by BenQ-LiteOn-Phillips – specifically the the BenQ VAD6038. This new drive will run many times quieter than the previous DVD drives used in the older Xbox 360 consoles. Load times will supposedly be quicker and “smoother” in comparison.

Sadly this does nothing for the 10 million plus current Xbox 360 owners. But at least those new to the Xbox 360 will be free of the dreaded 360 “whir”.
