Microsoft Launching Community Games This Fall; To Cost Between $2.50 and $10

The fruits of Microsoft’s XNA Game Studio toolset will finally ripen this fall through the new Community Games service on the Xbox 360.

The grand announcement was made this week at Microsoft’s Gamefest 2008 conference. The author of each title will get to decide upon its price point (between $2.50 and $10) and will collect “up to 70 percent” of total revenue generated. A second annual XNA-based contest will be held soon, with the winner getting the opportunity to receive and Xbox Live Arcade publishing contract.

Given the level of creativity shown in many homebrew projects, I could easily see this new service challenge the quality of what’s current being served up on Xbox Live Arcade. Agree or Disagree with me? Leave a comment!
