So here’s the deal. About a decade and a half ago, a little show called “Iron Chef” hit the airwaves in Japan. Hosted by the ostentatious Mr. Takeshi Kaga, the show made its way to America in dubbed form, and became an instant cult classic.
Unfortunately, as we all know, American TV loves to beat a good idea to death, and the series spawned several spin-offs on American Networks. While not being related in any way to the excellent original, the new shows carried on the “Iron Chef” name, the most recent of which being known as “The Next Iron Chef” – a reality show which had a bunch of white guys trying to out-cook each other, and no mention of Takeshi Kaga.
Fast forward to 2008, and an Iron Chef Wii game has been announced. But here’s the kicker, it’s being based on “Iron Chef America,” meaning it’s about as far removed from Takeshi Kaga as Starship Troopers 2 was from the original.
No details are yet available on the game, but we presume you will be using your Wii-mote to slice and dice food, upstage your opponents, and pretend you actually know how to cook. Sounds like a good bit of appetite torture. No further details are available on the title as of yet, other than the fact that it will be released in the second quarter of this year.
