Fans of the original Blue Dragon rejoice! Ignition Entertainment announced earlier today that they have picked up the rights to distribute Blue Dragon: Plus for the DS in North America and Europe. While the game didn’t manage to make a huge impact when it launched in Japan on September 4, hopes are high that it will be a big hit in the west. Although no exact release date has been given, Ignition is aiming for March 2009.
“We are thrilled to be able to take Blue Dragon Plus to market,” said Ajay Chadha, President of Ignition Entertainment. “Out-of-the-box thinking and effective marketing are the cornerstones of our success, and this acquisition relays our standing commitment to that. Clearly our partners have as much faith in Ignition as we have in their products!
“Ignition Entertainment has proven to be an excellent partner for us and we look forward to working together with them again with the launch of Blue Dragon Plus in North America and Europe next year,” said Tomoyuki Takechi, CEO of AQ Interactive Inc. — Ignition Press Release
I still feel that the original Blue Dragon is one of the most underrated RPGs released in past decade. It had every element that any old school RPG gamer would love but done in a way that made it feel fresh. Okay, calling it fresh might be a little generous but I really don’t think you can go wrong with a game like Blue Dragon at it’s current price point. $20 and you have yourself a game that will keep you entertained for over 50 hours!
As for Blue Dragon Plus, I’m definitely interested. It’s a tactical RPG and there is nothing I love more than sitting down and playing a board during the spare minutes I have throughout the day. I’ll be checking this out next March.
