It goes without saying that Gran Turismo fans are a little extreme. For years considered to be the only racing franchise worthy of the most discerning car buffs, many of them are already dreaming of November 2 when they’ll be able to sit behind the wheel of Gran Turismo 5 for the first time.
And for one of them, they’ll have their name enshrined in the game for all eternity. How’s that for fanservice?
How, you may ask? You may remember back at E3 2010 that the new trailer for the game featured a rather romantic, catchy tune, leaving fans to wonder what it was called. Well, here’s the thing – it didn’t have a title. But Kazunori Yamauchi and his team at Polyphony Digital certainly want it to…and that’s where you come it.
Simply send your suggestion for a title, along with your name or nickname, country of residence, and your thoughts on the song to [email protected] by July 25 at midnight. The winner will be handpicked by Yamauchi himself, and the song’s official title (and the person who named it) will be put into the end credits for Gran Turismo 5.
It goes without saying, but this is a pretty cool move for a contest. Sure, the ability to be forever enshrined in a video game is awesome on its own (the Chris Houlihan Room in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past immediately springs to mind) but to actually have a reason to be in it beyond simply being the lucky winner of a contest is even better.
Let’s just hope that Gran Turismo fans are just as talented with naming songs as they are with driving.
