A while back we had a few articles on Wii MotionPlus. One stated that The Conduit wouldn’t be taking use of the technology, and the other used some logic to try and pin-point the unit’s release. However, since then, we haven’t heard anything.
Stephen Totilo of MTV Multiplayer got some face time with Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America, to get the low-down on when we could expect a release. As is generally the case, most of Reggie’s responses were the in the template, “We don’t comment on rumor and speculation,” and he dodged practically all questions regarding MotionPlus. He did however drop some news on Wii Sports Resort.
MTV Multiplayer: What would you say the status of MotionPlus is?
Fils-Aime: The status of Motion Plus is consistent with what we talked about at E3. “Wii Sports Resort” looks great. I’ve played it.
MTV Multiplayer: Recently?
Fils-Aime: I played it two weeks ago. It looks phenomenal.
MTV Multiplayer: Better than it was at E3?
MTV Multiplayer: Is the level of control nuance that I last experienced [at E3 in July 2008] equivalent to what you’re experiencing? Or are you experiencing better?
Fils-Aime: The level of full motion capability is far in excess of what we showed at E3.
So, it would seem that Wii Sports Resort is coming along nicely which would lend itself to the conclusion that MotionPlus could still be out this spring, but as we say with all rumors, we’ll let you know concrete details when we hear word from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. My guess is that if nothing happens in the next few months we’ll see an explosion of news at E3.
Edit: Added the more pertinent information to the article that was lost in reporting. Sorry for the inconvenience and shoddy reporting.
