CALL OF DUTY

Activision has announced Call of Duty today, a new brand for PC
and consoles that will focus on “battlefields of the 20th century’s
most monumental conflicts”. Promising action on an epic scale,
the franchise will “thrust players into gripping, cinematic, authentic
warfare”. This first game to appear in the Call of Duty brand will be
Infinity Ward’s World War II-based first-person shooter of the same
name for PC.

Infinity Ward’s shooter will, so we’ve heard, be powered by Quake III
engine technology. The development studio, which was started up by
ex-members of 2015’s Allied Assault team, will be delivering a gritty
action title that will allow players to assume to roles of three different
characters: British commando; US paratrooper; and Russian infantry-
man.

Players of Call of Duty will apparently experience the “bonding and
brutality” of war as they fight in squad-based combat, embarking on
authentic campaigns and taking the fight to the Nazi war machine.
Missions and objectives will be varied, and we can expect to plunge
headfirst into battlefield assaults and tank battles, vehicle chases and
search and rescue, sabotage and stealth adventures.

“Infinity Ward’s mission is to make a game that is as historically accurate
and realistic as possible, that will bring a new level of cinematic action to
the genre,” says Grant Collier, president of Infinity Ward. “We’re constantly
researching locales, time periods, weapons and vehicles in order to immerse
players in the harsh realities of World War II.

When gamers get their hands on Call of Duty, they will experience gripping
battle sequences, ultra realistic environments, and in-the-trenches, non-stop
gameplay that will blow them away.”

Call of Duty is due to be released later this year
