Acclaim Lose Two Big Licenses

Acclaim is parting with two of its biggest franchises.

Acclaim has to part with two of its biggest franchises. According to the companies 10-K report they are selling Major League Baseball and Turok.

In May 2004 Acclaim lost rights to the Player Association of MLB Baseball for failure to pay them. The Player Association allows companies to use real MLB players names and numbers. According, to the filing they didn’t pay royalties to the Association.

Later in June, Classic Media-owner of the Turok comic-book, informed Acclaim that they will be losing the license. Acclaim didn’t pay royalties for Turok either.

Now is either of these franchises a lost to the gaming world? No way. Either game has ever sold well. Except for possible Turok 64. Every Turok game since the 64 version has been terrible and the 64 version wasn’t even that good.

As for the MLB title, that was their best attempt at selling any game. All-Star Baseball was one of the industries best baseball games. This is a much bigger blow than Turok. However, with EA and ESPN now in the baseball picture Acclaims game was doomed to see failure.
