5 Marvel characters that deserve their own movie – Cyclops

With the upcoming release of The Avengers, Marvel is as popular as ever. They have a large stable of popular characters that are making for hit movie after hit movie. We're also getting a Spider-Man reboot, but I can't help but think of other characters that are getting the shaft in place of more sequels and reboots. These characters have strong stories that would make for a heck of a movie. Some of them have been in other movies, but have either been weakly portrayed or didn't get enough screen time. So here are five Marvel character's that we'd like to see have feature films.

So far we've had Gambit, Doctor Strange, and Moon Knight.  Our #2 choice is someone that a lot of people find boring, but hear me out and my reasons for a movie for…

#2 Cyclops

I can't even begin to express my displeasure with how Marvel and Twentieth Century Fox handled Cyclops (Scott Summers) in the X-Men movies. I'm spitting angry. He is the leader of the X-Men, and they made him a squishy, backseat to Wolverine, whiny guy that they just end up killing off in the atrocious X-Men: The Last Stand. Scott was a leader, a lover, a cheater, a tactician, a husband, a father, and in the movie he was… not. They made him Michael Cera.

In order to fix everything they ruined with Cyclops, they have to do a few things. They need to pretend like the first three X-Men movies didn't happen — which wouldn't be that hard to do considering that it doesn't match up that well to X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: First Class. As a matter of fact, First Class kind of ruins some of the Cyclops story by making Havoc so much older than Cyclops (they're brothers, if you didn't know, and Scott is supposed to be the older one.)

At this point, I guess you can throw continuity out the window, considering all of the others did, or we can go off of First Class, since that one is the best. Even still, Cyclops wouldn't be the first X-Man. And how could we justify him being the leader?

Cyclops X-Men

I'm getting a headache trying to figure out how to tackle a Cyclops storyline. I'll just stick to the coming off of the First Class movies, because there's no way of introducing a Cyclops movie if they already have a new X-Men trilogy.

So… Scott Summers won't be the first X-Man — this could have been the case if we go off of the Wolverine movie.

Okay — f**k it. It's impossible at this point to make a Cyclops movie that can fix the clusterf**k that has become of the X-Men. All they have to do in the next First Class movie is introduce a young Scott Summers. Maybe his older brother helps Professor Xavier recruit him. It can be Havoc and Xavier rescuing Scott from Jack O'Diamonds.

See, when Scott Summers' parents died in a plane crash, they sacrificed themselves and pushed Scott and Alex out of the plane with a parachute. Scott hit his head, and that prevents him from fully controlling his mutant power by himself. Child services takes the boys and separates them, with Alex getting adopted and Scott staying in a hospital. After recovery, Scott is placed in an orphanage — which is secretly controlled by Mister Sinister (remember him from the #5 Gambit storyline?).

Anyways, Scott comes into the foster care of Jack Winters, a mutant criminal known as Jack O'Diamonds. Due to headaches, he gets sent to a specialist that creates ruby quartz lenses that alleviates his head problems. Then, Scott's first uncontrollable blast of optic force happens. He hits a crane, almost kills a crowd of people, but does another blast to save them. This is where Havoc and Xavier can enter, maybe have a little fight with Jack O'Diamonds and save Scott from the angry crowd.

Cyclops Marvel

He gets enlisted into the X-Men and immediately shows skills as a tactician, but he lacks social skills. Now, a Cyclops storyline wouldn't make sense without Jean Grey, so she'd have to be in the movie. There love would have to blossom, and the X-Men would have to be challenged by an enemy that tests them mightily. In that fight, Scott would show skills and leadership that would put him in the role of the leader of the X-Men.

A lot of people say Cyclops is a boring character and that there are other characters more deserving of their own movie, but if you read the comics, he goes through a lot in his life and has a ton of storylines around him. He's linked to Emma Frost, Apocalypse, Cable, and more. James Marsden (played Cyclops in the first X-Men trilogy) has been on record saying that the writers didn't give Cyclops the depth he deserved and that it was all about Wolverine. Which is totally the case. He thinks that Cyclops is ripe for his own film. Well, I would love Marsden to put the glasses and suit on again, but for this storyline, he's just too old.

A younger Cyclops will be needed. Cyclops needs to be introduced to this reboot of the X-Men. Make him the character that he should be, not just some fill-in character to give Wolverine someone to look good against.

Cyclops is integral to the X-Men and is a must-have character to set up our #1 Marvel character that needs his own movie. Fix Cyclops — he needs it.
