XBOX
AND MECHWARRIOR 4: VENGEANCE WIN GAME CRITICS BEST OF E3 AWARDS

Three
Microsoft Games Win Runner-Up Awards

Microsoft
today announced that Xbox and MechWarrior 4: Vengeance won Game Critics Awards
for Best Peripheral/Hardware Console and Best Simulation respectively. Three
other titles published by Microsoft, FreeLancer, Dungeon Siege and Sigma,
garnered Runner-Up Awards in their various categories. The Game Critics Awards
(http://www.e3awards.com/) are independent E3 awards voted on by editors from
several online and print gaming magazines.

In
a field crowded with the who’s who of the gaming industry, MechWarrior 4:
Vengeance was crowned Best Simulation game of the 2000 Electronic
Entertainment Expo. Judges referenced the game’s amazing graphics, fast paced,
action-oriented gameplay and increased focus on player-centric tactical
control as its winning characteristics. MechWarrior 4: Vengeance will be
available at retail this holiday. FreeLancer, developed by Digital Anvil and
published by Microsoft, was named Runner-Up in this highly competitive
category.

Microsoft
scored Best Peripheral/Hardware for Consoles with Xbox. Beating out Dreamcast,
PS2, Dreamcast Maracas and the Dreamcast Mouse, Xbox was, in the words of the
Game Critics judges "too cool to ignore." Citing the DVD,
networking, graphics processing and the ease of use for developers, Xbox was
crowned with its first major award. Xbox will be available at retail locations
globally in the fall of 2001.

Microsoft
had two additional titles garner Runner-Up awards. Dungeon Siege, developed by
Chris Taylor’s Gas Powered Games, and Sigma, developed by Alex Garden’s Relic
Entertainment, were named Runner-Up winners in the RPG and Original Game
categories. Both titles will be available in fall 2001.
