When I first checked out WWE All Stars and got some hands-on time with the game, I felt like the major wrestling promotion was releasing a more arcade-like experience for gamers to let loose and have fun with. After watching a trailer for the freshly announced WWE Brawl, I can attest that All Stars has nothing on this game as far as arcade gameplay is concerned. The latest in the WWE brand of video games, Brawl looks to pack the insanity and over-the-top antics of the arcade fighting genre with as little wrestling as possible.
Judging from the trailer, the developers are going for a gameplay style that is incredibly cartoon-like. That’s not a bad thing, though, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how the game turns out. But it’s a complete change of pace from what I’ve come to expect from wrestling games. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer and see for yourself.
Did you see those insane WWE Superstar caricatures? What about those wacky outfits? Did you notice how none of the WWE Superstars were performing any actual wrestling moves and were instead going for Smash Bros.-esque attacks? Also, why the heck is Sheamus’ hair on fire? I had no clue he was related to Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal.
Here’s hoping we get more details on the game in the near future. You can expect WWE Brawl to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii sometime in 2012.
