Unity Issues Delaying Yooka-Laylee’s Nintendo Switch Release

Unity is great, but this hang up is keeping us from greatness.

Playtonic released Yooka-Laylee on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in April, but the Nintendo Switch release they've got planned has a bit longer in the oven. Apparently, in regards to porting it to the Nintendo Switch, the developer is having issues with the Unity engine the game was built on.

Initially, the team was waiting for Unity's 5.6 release to fix the issues they were having, but following said release, other issues arose with the game's performance which is now hindering the final touches of development.

An update was released on their Kickstarter page where they stated that the  "Playtonic team has been working tirelessly to bring Yooka-Laylee to Nintendo Switch and we're very nearly there (we promise!) However, we've encountered some final technical hurdles."

Developing indie and third-party titles for the Nintendo Switch has been the focus for Nintendo both technically and commercially, but the technical issues between them and Unity have caused some roadblocks. Another indie title, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, has run into Unity issues, which has also delayed developer Airship Syndicate's release of their title.
