Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Announced

It seems pretty much all the exclusive reveals planned for the Spike VGAs have now been leaked. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is among them, and although a proper trailer is expected for this weekend, details and a teaser have already emerged.

Set for a holiday 2011 release, Uncharted 3 will venture off to the desert this time around. Entertainment Weekly already got a tour of one of the levels:

According to Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig, the theme of deception plays out in multiple ways throughout the threequel, from Drake doing the deceiving to Drake being deceived to some mysterious deception about Drake’s very identity. The story focuses on the hero’s relationship with his mentor and father figure, fan fave Victor “Sully” Sullivan, and has him searching for a legendary lost city that will ultimately take him to the Arabian Peninsula and the vast wasteland of the Rub’ al Khali Desert, also known as the Empty Quarter. (Said legendary lost city has been known by various names, including “Iram of the Pillars” and the “Atlantis of the Sands”).

The desert seems to be a curious choice, as much of Uncharted 2’s best action took place in a war-torn city. Naughty Dog reportedly jumped at the challenge of making a ground-breaking interactive experience in the difficult desert setting.

As long as there are no sasquatches or chupacabras this time around, I’m good.
