The average reviews and financial doomsdaying over the release of THQ’s Homefront haven’t deterred the game from cracking the Amazon top five this week, taking spots behind Pokemon in both the US and UK. The high sales for the game seem to be prevalent outside of Amazon as well, with THQ reporting sales success as well as server issues from the larger-than-expected online audience. Our own review argues that the game is better than the naysayers are giving it credit for, so check that out, especially if you’re on the fence about the game.
Beyond that, the sales charts in western territories seem to be business as usual. It’s the same smattering of dance and fitness games, along with the Pokemon juggernaut that you can assume will be hanging out in the charts for some time. One surprise is a PC game that sneaked its way into the UK top five. Total War: Shogun 2, the latest in the popular Total War strategy games, shows that the long-running series still has legs.
In Japan, the 3DS line-up once again pokes and prods at the top five without taking it over the way you might expect. There was no nintendogs + cats in the top five, but Samurai Warriors Chronicles hit at number four. Returning entries include Final Fantasy Dissidia Dyuodeshimu, Dynasty Warriors 6, and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which continue to remind us of the supremacy of portable games in the Japanese market.
Another week down, we can see Pokemon is here to stay. You can see the complete list of top fives below. It will be interesting to see if Homefront’s success can make it to next week, or if it will be knocked out by upcoming releases like Crysis 2. Stay tuned to find out, and until then, enjoy the weekend!
