After months — years, even — of rumors and speculation, Microsoft will finally lift the lid on its next-gen console plans and finally unveil the next Xbox. The new Xbox is set to debut at Microsoft's Redmond campus today; the event will begin at 10:00 PDT.
It should be noted that we don't actually know if the new Xbox will be shown, though I expect Microsoft will avoid the same mistake Sony made when it only showed its DualShock 4 controller during the PS4 announcement and instead kept the actual console a mystery. But in a move that appeared to be an attempt to steal some of the spotlight from today's Xbox event, Sony yesterday released a video teasing the PS4 system reveal at E3.
Regardless of Sony's attempts, hype surrounding the next Xbox reveal is at an all-time high and social media buzz surrounding today's event indicates that gamers want to know more of Microsoft's next generation plans. We don't know how much will exactly be shown off today, as Microsoft has plans to split the Xbox reveal into two presentations — one today which will focus on the vision for the future of games, and one at E3 which will be more about the games. Although, there are a few games we expect to be revealed today like Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, and either a new Forza or Project Gotham Racing.
Make sure you save your lunch break, folks. Microsoft will be offering a live global stream available on Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE, and Spike TV if you are in the U.S. or Canada. Of course, you could always just come back to GameZone where we'll have live, up-to-date coverage and analysis of all the latest exciting announcements from the event. In the meantime, you can get a head start on today's event by catching up on some of the past rumors and speculation surrounding the Xbox 720… errr, next Xbox.
