Don't expect any new Fallout: New Vegas DLC in 2012, at least not officially. Amidst the release of his newly created mod for the game, Fallout: New Vegas project director J.E. Sawyer confirmed that "the game's over".
Yesterday, Sawyer took the time in his new mod release to address Fallout: New Vegas. The new mod, created by Sawyer tweaks the game to his preference. According to Sawyer, some of the mechanics in the new mod "makes the game significantly more difficult (base health / stim changes) or at least more of a hassle (carry weight, stims having weight, H2O/SLP/FOD rate increase)."
Answering why he didn't just release the changes included in his mod with a new game patch, Sawyer answered:
"Finally, the game's over. The ship has sailed. No one is working on it anymore. No testers, nothing. This mod is just me working in my free time. If I horribly botch something, you can just un-check the mod and go on your way."
While it's a sad thing that no more Fallout: New Vegas content will be released, it's good to see the passion for the game from the developer. It just goes to show you that it's not always about money with these developers. Some actually care about their product – even after "the ship has sailed".
The mod, which can be found here, does require the Fallout: New Vegas DLC to run and does not add any removed/unfinished quests.
