The Expendables 2 is set to become a video game – because if there is any movie that deserves a video game tie-in, it's this one. Unlike most tie-ins, Ubisoft is taking a different, and what I feel is smarter, approach.
I think we can agree that video game tie-ins to movies are, for the most part, a disappointment. Yes, you have your few stars, but for the most part many of them are just another teat on the cash cow. Which is why I commend Ubisoft on their approach to turn this high-action flick into an elite mercenary shooter for PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade.
The Expendables 2 is going to be big. Big stars, big muscles, big explosions. So expect the video game to take you on a big adventure that will have you rescue an extremely valuable, kidnapped billionaire. Sounds easy? Just wait until all hell breaks loose and the testosterone kicks in.
Taking a squad-based approach, players can join up to three friends locally and online to experience this non-stop action in "cinematic, close quarters combat or while controlling an arsenal of vehicles in exotic locations including Somalian deserts, Burmese jungles and more."
If there's anything men love more than explosions, it's competition. And The Expendables 2 is filled with it. Fans looking to compete for bragging rights can compete in several challenges for the top spot on the leaderboard.
The Expendables 2 videogame is due out this summer for Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as PC. The story will conclude right where the new movie begins, setting you up perfectly for the movie sequel due out August 17, 2012.
