Temple Run hits 100 million downloads on iOS and Android

Imangi Studios' Temple Run has amassed 100 million downloads across iOS and Android. To celebrate the milestone, all of the developer's games are free for a short time.

Temple Run reached 68 million downloads on iOS and 32 million on Android. The game turned one-year-old yesterday.

"We never imagined that the game we were making and loved would be so well received around the world," said Keith Shepherd, cofounder of Imangi Studios.

Over 10 billion sessions of the game have been played since August 2011 — that's about 54,000 years' worth. Since the goal of the game is to make your escape with a stolen idol for as long as possible, it's no wonder players find the concept addicting.

A variation on the game — Temple Run: Brave from Imangi and Disney Pixar — came out in June and rocketed to the No. 1 spot in the App Store, claiming a place in the top 10 since its release.

Temple Run is currently free via the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon.
