Tekken 7 loses Roger the kangaroo because “animal activists”

The bears are still in though.

If you've checked out the ESRB summary for Tekken 7,  you know full well that the game will be pretty wild, but apparently not wild enough to feature a kangaroo fighter by the name of Roger. Apparently, Roger was cut because animal activists were riled up over a viral video that saw a man punching a kangaroo in an attempt to rescue his dog.

Before the activists' frustration at the man punching the kangaroo somehow transferred to Tekken 7's Roger, the developers decided to cut the character from the game.

“There was a video of a man’s dog being headlocked by a kangaroo, and he punched it in the face”, Tekken’s executive producer Katsuhiro Harada explained to VG247. “It turned into a big problem. People were complaining about him punching a kangaroo. It seems that in the last few years there’s a lot more animal activists – even though they probably wouldn’t play our game they would still hear about that, about a kangaroo in our game being punched, and would complain about it.”

Tekken 7 will still feature other animals, like Panda and Kuma the bear because a bear is “obviously stronger than a human being.”

The viral video in question:

In other Tekken 7 news, the game will be getting two new characters from other games as DLC at some point in the future after the game releases. The guest characters will come with their own stages and costumes too.

Tekken 7 is set to release June 2nd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
