You may know developer Gust as the company behind the Atelier series of RPGs. As reported by Andriasang, the company will be bought out by Tecmo Koei. The deal was finalized earlier today, and Tecmo Koei will be acquiring Gust later this month.
In today's announcement, it was revealed that Tecmo Koei has plans of continuing forward with the Atelier series. As one of Gust's most popular franchises, this was pretty much a given. I mean, why not roll with a series like Atelier, right?
Though it's very likely that Gust will continue developing Atelier games as we know them, Tecmo Koei also has some new plans for the series. Following the news of the acquisition, it was reported that Gust would be developing social games under the Atelier banner. I don't think North American fans will take too kindly to that, but it's possible that the Japanese market may appreciate the shift.
Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland was one of the more recent titles in the series to land in North America, and it was a pretty good endeavor overall. How Tecmo Koei's acquisition of Gust will affect the series remains to be seen at the moment. We'll have to wait to find out how the social Atelier games turn out, and what plans Tecmo Koei has for the main series moving forward.
