SURPRISE! Activision confirms new Call of Duty title for 2012

First-person shooter fans, I have empathy for you. We've hit a dry spell in the genre; it's been four long months since we were introduced to a new Call of Duty title. If you're beginning to lose hope, fear not, superhero Activision has come to save the day, announcing a new title for the franchise coming this year.

Okay, enough sarcasm.  During the publisher's 4th Quarter earnings call today, Activison officially confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be coming in 2012. Will the game have new features? Will it have a revamped multiplayer? Will the single-player campaign last longer than five hours? Though it's early to speculate, probably not. At this point, Activison realizes that the brand is a money maker. Heck, Modern Warfare 3 has racked in over a billion dollars to date.

Despite confirming the title, no details were made about it. Previous reports suggest that it will be Black Ops 2, but many believe it could be an entirely new era, though I'm pretty sure the developer is running out of them (I'm no history major, so don't quote me on that). Nonetheless, the demographic is enormous, and millions will purchase it. At this point, what will make you shell out another $60 for a new Call of Duty title? Let us know by commenting below.
