Soulja Boy is getting a video game. At least, according to an image the rapper posted on his tumblr page yesterday with a caption below that read "soulja boy the video game in stores 2012."
Begin the countdown folks. When asked by a fan about the picture, which also happens to be his Twitter background, Soulja confirmed the game will be available next year for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Plans for a Soulja Boy video game have been in the works for a few years now. He told Complex in 2008 that the game was coming soon.
"After I put the Xbox 360 challenge up on the Internet, it was over all these video game sites. And a couple video game companies hit me up on my email because I put the email on there too. And hit me up like, 'Blah, blah, blah, blah.' So I was like, 'Oh snaps!'" Soulja said back in 2008. "So I forwarded to my management, and they forwarded to my label. And now we're doing the video game. It was the same way I got signed for my music. It's like history repeating itself, but instead of music this time it's about video games."
This isn't the first time we've seen a game based on a famous rapper, but you'd thing the gaming industry would have learned from 50 Cent's Blood on the Sand. Guess not.
In the words of the rapper himself, "Yeah, I'm getting money, ohhhhh".
I'm actually surprised this title isn't being delayed until the next generation of consoles are released. A game like this can really provide the boost in a launch lineup that a console needs to get ahead in sales. Hopefully the game isn't as bad as his music.
