Soul Reaver reboot in the works?

We haven't seen a new Legacy of Kain game since 2003, when Legacy of Kain: Defiance launched on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The fifth game in the series was met with critical praise, and fans really ate it up. To be quite honest, it's strange that the series didn't continue. Then again, when you think about how badly IPs are milked these days, maybe that's a good thing.

It's being rumored that a "Soul Reaver reboot" is currently in the works over at Crystal Dynamics. If so, then that's certainly surprising news. Then again, maybe it's not, because we see reboots of older franchises all too often these days.

According to VG247, "a source" spilled the beans on the current state of the Legacy of Kain series, but even then, it's still unknown where Crystal Dynamics will take the series if these rumors are true. Will Kain be the protagonist? Will Raziel? It's all up in the air at this point as details are practically nonexistent.

All Crystal Dynamics supposedly admitted was that the new game would feature a "new art style." If true, that could either be a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand, the series' dark look was stylistically moody. On the other hand, the dev team could just want to take advantage of the current generation of hardware.

We'll have to wait and see what Crystal Dynamics has to say on the matter. Currently, the studio is expected to make the big reveal at this year's E3 in June. Well, I guess we'll find out then, won't we?
