Everquest II has been around since 2004, and SOE has made many changes over the years. The developer has recently announced their sixtieth update, entitled The Children of War. While the update adds new dungeons, tweaks existing systems, and more, one of the most interesting renovations is the way SOE is trying to bring players back to the game.
If you have an inactive account for Everquest II, you may want to take note. Between April 14 and 21, eligible players can return to the game and try out the new content for free. If you’ve quit, then you’ve probably already made up your mind about the game, but the offer is at least a nice chance to see how the game has changed since your last log-in. You’ll also get a free flying mount for signing up again, and we all know how much people love those things.
As for the new features coming to the game, The Children of War includes new dungeons, new raids with new bosses, new daily missions, Crystal Caverns, a solo shard quest, two new heritage quests, and an additional signature quest line. On the PVP side, SOE has added a new Battleground map called The Frozen Tundra, a game type called Vanquish, and more PVP armor.
Besides the fresh content, the update also tweaks several systems. A lobby has been introduced, giving players a place to gather between matches. PVP rules have been modified for better balance, as well. Lastly, SOE has made changes to itemization, improving the Adornments interface and “continued honing of the itemization system.”
Is this update enough to bring you back Everquest II, or is it too late to join the increasingly crowded MMO space?
