What better way to announce a new game than with a reveal trailer. While little is known about Square Enix’s new game Sleeping Dogs, this trailer is pretty damn action packed and sweet. What we know is that Sleeping Dogs is a gritty open-world cop drama set in the city of Hong Kong. You will play as an undercover cop named Wei Shen who is trying to take out the Triads within the city. The focus appears to be on both action and story riddled with loyalty, betrayal, and the questioning of your own motives.
The combat appears to be focused on close combat, much like in the reveal trailer. You will be able to perform punching and kicking combos, strangleholds, and use the environment to your advantage – refrigerator doors, circular saws, phone booths, and possibly the kitchen sink?
From SE general manager Lee Singletonv in the press release:
From the moment you pick up the controller and experience the blend of driving, close combat and shooting you know you’re playing something fresh and a bit special. Sleeping Dogs has one of the best melee combat systems out there – it’s super brutal with devastating takedown moves, and when added to UFG’s proven heritage in driving games, a first class story and the vibrant backdrop of the Hong Kong underworld we get a fiery recipe with fun written all over it.
Well it appears that Square Enix might just have something here. While the trailer is all live action and no actual gameplay, it really seems they tried to capture what they want the game to be like. Sleeping Dogs will be out the second half of 2012 and will be for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Enjoy.
