Shadow of War on Xbox One X is a “significant” jump over the PS4 Pro

No question.

The console space is gearing up for its most powerful box yet, and while there hasn't been an overwhelming number of tech demos, what we have seen has been impressive. Shadow of War is the latest game to get such a tech demo, and of course, the folks at Digital Foundry have gotten their hands on it. They have put together a comparison video that'll stoke the fires of the old console wars (while the PC crowd watches from high in their ivory towers of course).

For me, the most striking comparison was the draw distance shot they show off on both consoles. This one, to be exact:

Shadow of War on Xbox One X is a "respectable" jump over the PS4 Pro

The big thing with the PS4 Pro is that it has a lot more low-quality textures that you just don't get at the highest levels of performance. The quality of the gravel is another sticking point that Digital Foundry focuses on, and while you're not going to spend a great deal of time staring at the ground while you cut orcs to bits, it's still noticeable if you look hard enough.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
