Second Star Wars Anthology movie to be a Boba Fett origin story

New report claims next Star Wars spinoff could be about iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett

I know we're talking ways in the future, but the second Star Wars Anthology film, expected to release in 2018, is reportedly going to be a Boba Fett origin story.

At this point, it's only a rumor (reported by TheWrap) that Disney has yet to confirm, but given the bounty hunter's popularity I could see it happening.

The Boba Fett standalone movie will be Disney's second planned film in the Star Wars Anthology, a series of spinoff and standalone movies that will expand the Star Wars universe in addition to the core numbered films.

If true, it's unclear exactly when the film would take place. As an origin story, you'd expect it to center around a more younger Boba Fett, but we already saw that in 2002's Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. In that film, we were introduced to a young Boba — an unaltered clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett who raised him as a son — and even saw how he lost his "father."

Unfortunately, with the prequel trilogy we were simply left with Boba picking up the helmet of his "father," so it's possible a new film could provide us with a look into the early adventures of Boba Fett. Perhaps a standalone movie could take place somewhere between Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes Back, showing us how Boba became one of the most notorious bounty hunters in the galaxy.

Last month, Disney gave fans who attended Star Wars Celebration a sneak peek at the first Star Wars Anthology movie, Star Wars: Rogue One. Apparently, this spinoff is set between the third (Revenge of the Sith) and fourth (A New Hope) films in the core Star Wars saga, and revolves around "a rogue band of resistance fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy." A brief teaser trailer (above) along with concept art, which we've heard about in the past, was shown to the audience.

Star Wars: Rogue is set to begin shooting this summer in London. It's due for release in theaters on December 16, 2016, about a year after the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (December 18, 2015). Beyond that, there's still Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26, 2017, and then this supposed Boba Fett standalone in 2018. So don't count on Disney talking Boba Fett anytime soon.
