Back in 1999, Japanese Dreamcast owners were treated to a pet simulator called Seaman. The game landed in North America in 2000, but its popularity in Japan was incredible. Seaman managed to become the third best-selling Dreamcast game in Japan at one point, proving that it was wildly popular.
Since 2010, Seaman creator Yoot Saito has been mentioning a 3DS port of the pet sim here and there. Up until now, it all seemed like water cooler talk and wishful thinking. It looks like the 3DS might actually get Seaman, though.
According to online publication Nikkei, Nintendo is looking into bringing games from different third-party publishers to the 3DS. One of the titles mentioned was Seaman. Odd choice? Absolutely!
Personally, I don't know how Seaman would fare on the 3DS here in North America. In Japan, though, I think it has the potential to once again top the charts for the 3DS like it did with the Dreamcast. As weird as that is, it could be good for Nintendo's handheld.
