Rumor: Apple to release game console in 2012

According to a recent rumor, Apple could be working on a brand new product that acts as both a TV and game console. Better yet, this device could be making its way onto store shelves as early as 2012.

Website cultofmac.com is reporting that sources have told them that Apple plans to release its own TV set in 2012. Unlike Apple TV, this new device is rumored to have "an iTunes-integrated touchscreen remote and Siri-like voice command technology." In addition, the TV is said to have a built in Kinect-like game console that will go toe to toe with the Wii U, Xbox 720, and PS4.

Whether or not this rumor is true, the idea of a TV that utilizes the success of Apple and gaming seems briliant. Of course, if true, there's a great chance that this product would make your wallet cry for years. Time will tell if this rumored game console/TV is actually on the horizon, but if it is indeed coming, would you go this path instead of the other next generation consoles?
