Rogue One is not expected to do as well as The Force Awakens at the Box Office

'This is a rebellion isn't it?'

"I rebel."

That line is still terrible, no matter how hard I try. Anywho, Disney Chief Bob Iger and Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy have been meeting to discuss the future of the Star Wars franchise beyond the main entry films, and one of the things they have been talking about are their projections for this year's film, Rogue One.

Iger told Variety that he had seen a rough cut of Rogue One, and while he did not dive into specifics, he did insinuate that it might be a very different kind of Star Wars movie. He said:

"It’s really interesting in terms of ‘Star Wars’ storytelling. ‘Star Wars’ has only been told as a saga, and this is a moment in time … we love what we’ve seen."

He went on to say that the company does not expect to see a Force Awakens-like return on the movie, which grossed $2.1 billion globally, good for third all-time. But he remains optimistic. He said:

"We never felt it would do the level that 'Force Awakens' did…The level of interest [in 'Rogue One'] is as high as it was for 'Force Awakens.'"

Rogue One has had somewhat of a tumultuous development, undergoing extensive reshoots due to poor testing results. The film has been advertising several key cameos for the movie, including Darth Vader and Bail Organa, but it remains to be seen if the film will be any good.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story releases in theaters on December 16th, 2016.
