PRESS
RELEASE
Funcom
is proud to announce that its adventure title "The Longest
Journey"
will be coming to American stores in November 2000. The game
has
already received excellent reviews after its initial release in
Europe,
and Funcom is now hoping the game will attract a broad
audience
when it hits US stores before Christmas.
"If
given the opportunity, The Longest Journey stands a better chance
than
any game in years of reawakening the adventure game in America,"
the
New York Times writes in an article earlier this year. "The
Longest
Journey is an ostentatiously gorgeous game, the most stunning
since
Riven, with landscapes and animated sequences that will make you
gasp."
The
Longest Journey stars a female heroine, 18-year-old April Ryan,
who
one day discovers a parallel world to the one she lives in. She
realizes
that her destiny is to embark on a long journey, travelling
between
the two worlds to save both from destruction. With a story
spanning
thirteen complete chapters, and a surprising and emotional
finale,
TLJ is an epic adventure to be remembered.
"There
are very few games like this in the market place today,"
explains
Funcom president Andre Backen. "We have created a unique
classical
point-and-click PC game that appeals to both hardcore
adventure
gamers and the more casual gamers. There are no violent
scenes
and you proceed by solving puzzles, talking to other characters
and
exploring the environment."
The
Longest Journey features:
–
Over 160 unique locations, spanning two distinct and detailed worlds
–
More than 70 speaking characters
–
Exciting mix of 2D and 3D graphics in high-resolution
–
Each scene featuring multiple 3D characters
–
Real-time lighting with detailed shadow-effects and moving light sources
–
Dynamic colored lighting in both software and hardware
–
Motion-captured animations
–
Skeletal animation system with real-time interpolation
–
Real-time lip-synching of dialogue
–
50+ hours of gameplay
–
30+ minutes of high-resolution pre-rendered video footage
–
Cinematic musical score
Funcom
will bring the game to the US market together with US
distributor
Tri Synergy. "We are very pleased with our distribution
agreement
with Tri Synergy, and we feel confident that The Longest
Journey
will do very well with these organizations behind the game,"
explains
Funcom president Andre Backen.
"Funcom
is one of most skilled development groups we have ever come
across
and their products are among the most anticipated titles by
both
consumers and retailers," says Tamra Nestler, President of Tri
Synergy.
We are getting tremendous support from the top US retailers
and
expect The Longest Journey to be among the bestsellers in North
America.
We take great pride in our association with Funcom,"
concludes
Nestler.
