With the NGP and Xperia Play set for launch later this year, it seems only natural that Sony would slash the price of its current handheld gaming system. The PSP is now available for $129.99, dropped from its previous $169.99 price tag. In regards to the reduction, SCEA senior vice president of sales Tim Bender said, “Nearly six years after its initial launch, demand for the PSP remains strong. This new price point enables us to broaden the PSP platform to a larger group of consumers who are looking for best-in-class handheld entertainment.”
The reduced cost of the PSP will certainly result in more gamers finally getting the handheld. In hindsight, wasn’t this price cut long overdue? If you’ve been waiting for the PSP to go on sale, now is a great time to acquire Sony’s current handheld. Those extra $40 can fund a couple of games, including 13 new Greatest Hits titles, which are available for $9.99 on the system. Will you be getting a PSP now that it’s $129.99?
