PSN Welcome Back Results in Overload

Sony launched the PlayStation Network Welcome Back program earlier today, and as it turns out, gamers are eagerly downloading away. Of course, given the thousands of people who are probably trying to get their free games, there’s a bit of slowdown on the server’s end. Many gamers are experiencing numerous error messages.

It’s not surprising that this is happening. After all, Sony put up some quality games for both the PlayStation 3 and the PSP, so you can bet gamers who don’t already own those stellar titles will definitely try to get them now that they’re free. I wonder if all of those people who were complaining about how “we already own these games” are also contributing to the PSN slowdown.

I’ve been trying to download my free copies of inFamous and Wipeout HD + Fury throughout the day, but I’ve gotten countless error messages. No biggie. I’ll just try again later tonight or perhaps in a week.

We can probably expect this sort of PSN activity for some time, so don’t get too stressed out if you can’t download your games yet. I would suggest trying during E3, when plenty of gamers will be away from their PlayStation 3 consoles scouring the internet for the latest updates from the press event. Oh, shoot, I just revealed my big plan for how to download the games without a hitch! Oh, well.
