Path of Exile exceeds developer’s expectations with over 4 million registered users

Grinding Gear Games officially launched Path of Exile on Steam last month, and the developer says the reception has "exceeded initial expectations."

The free-to-play action role-playing game has attracted more than 4 million registered users and more than 250,000 daily users. For comparison, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, which has more visibility but has only been out on PC and PlayStation 3 since August, has over 1.5 million registered accounts (that number recorded as of late October).

Over 1.5 million unique players logged in to Path of Exile after the open beta ended, according to the developer.

Grinding Gear recently introduced new supporter packs, which help fund the game. Late last week, it rolled out patch 1.0.2, which added "several new Unique items, vendor recipes, achievements, and microtransactions, as well as final touches on the rapid-fire PvP Tournaments, various bug fixes, and some balancing changes to the game's damage over time mechanics."

Path of Exile had been in open beta since January 2013.
