Nintendo to offer a “unique hands-on experience” before E3 2013 officially opens

No press conference at E3 2013? No problem. Nintendo is hosting a "Wii U Software Showcase" for media. Prior to the E3 Expo opening, Nintendo is giving media "the chance to get closer to the games through a unique hands-on experience" that includes gameplay and a question and answer session.

Since E3 officially starts on June 11 at 12 p.m., Nintendo will start their media hands-on with Wii U titles at 11:00 a.m. at its booth. Before that at 10:30 a.m, Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo of America COO Reggie Fils-Aime will have a short presentation.

In April, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the company would not be having a traditional press conference at E3 2012. Instead, they would use their Nintendo Direct videos for announcements. But they would still have a presence at E3, including a pair of private events for distributors and media focused on its U.S. market software lineup. At this year's E3, the following new games have been promised to be shown:

  • Mario Kart
  • Wii Party
  • Super Smash Bros.
  • 3D Mario action game from the Super Mario Galaxy team

I'm confused how this hands-on presentation will be unique. I guess the Q&A is cool, but isn't that something I can do during my scheduled appointment during E3? I'm sure this event will go hand-in-hand with the Nintendo Direct that they'll most likely have on June 10.
